Another big thank-you to all the folks who have helped me through various outboard-related problems over the years. Today I got a crossover benefit from this knowledge. It was lawn-mowing time, and I needed to break out the string trimmer to get around the swing set and the fence. Dang thing wouldn't start at all. I dug into my motor knowledge (most of it acquired here on iBoats) and looked to the fuel lines, which were brittle and falling apart. I replaced all the lines but still couldn't get the thing to start. I got inspired and tore into the carburetor and lo and behold! There is a small screen filter on the fuel intake side of the carb which was clogged with some grey goop. I cleaned out the goop and went through the rest of the carb with cleaner and reassembled it. Put in fresh fuel and the thing fired right up!

Once again, thanks to all the folks that gave me the knowledge to avoid having to spend another $100+ on a new string trimmer.

Eavega,
Yeap, IBoats, in my opinion ROCKS!!!!!! the internet on everything from selling boat parts to these AWESOME!!!!! forums. I have learned tremendously about all kinds of stuff that ha saved me a bunch of labor cost working on my own stuff. Yeap, that 2-stroke smell has me hooked to and has made me dangerous, LOL. Love this site, IBoats, an avid and respectable fan.
