I was showing my boat, and displayed a pair of vintage aluminum water skis. They seemed to crate quite a buzz, as some long time skiiers had never seen anything like that.

So, I was wondering, for those in the know, are they rare? Valuable? Unfortunately, at this time, I have no pix available.

Thanks,
jim

Never hear of such a thing. I've been water skiing for about 30 years. I'm gonna say there pretty rare!

are they completely aluminum, or just aluminum on top? I have an EP experimental slalom ski from the mid '80's that is composite tunnel bottom, but a brushed aluminum top. I think several slalom ski's of 80's also had an aluminum top that was painted. HO and Jobe come to mind. (?)

They are all aluminum. [except for the 'shoes']
A sheet aluminum, framed along the edges for strength, with reinforcements at the front, binding area, and rear. I can see in my mind a decal with a name four letters and starts with "A". Definately NOT alcoa, maybe arco or argo ????

I managed to get this from the boat show photos, again its small, but you can sorta get the idea:

cool... nope never heard or em or seen them either. Compared to the wooden planks of the day, they would've been the "Jetson's" ski's.

never seen the aluminum ones, but still have a pair of the sleds of the left, 1960's vintage, and pair of cypress gardens.

Those are pretty cool. I almost wonder if they were custom made by a boat manufacturer way back when?

When I think of vintage in water sports I always think Banana George. No wonder really, 93 & still going strong

It seems to me I remember seeing a set of aluminum skis hanging on a wall as decor in a diner someplace, it may well have been in PA. Not being a skier of any sort I can't say whether they were water skis or regular snow skis. Until I read your post, I had just though they were snow skis.
