I want your guys opinion on something. I am contracted to a large company. My manager has been looking to add a few more headcount. I knew my contract had a referral bonus, though I didn't bother to ask how much. I spoke to someone today that I knew and gave their name to my contact house. One of my coworkers who is contracted with a different contract house told me he gets a referral bonus of $1,500 for every new person he refers. I then decided to ask my recruiter how much the bonus was, they said $25 and that they would take me to lunch.

I don't know if I should just use my friend as the referrer and split the $1500 50/50 or should I just speak to my contract house. I don't want to feel like jerk, but I don't like to feel screwed.

Should I approach my contract house about this?

Thanks,

if your friend woudl do the split go that route. of course taxes have to come out. many contract houses don't even do the $25 it's hey thanks a lot we'll rememeber you later or they get you a shirt with their name.
best I've gotten is $1000 for 25 I wouldn't even give them a friends name.

As a sales rep/recruiter I would say you are being taken advantage of. I would refer your person to the competing contract house directly, and ask for the entire fee. Splitting it would be a nice gesture but it doesn?t pay the bills and you should feel no obligation at all to your current company or the friend you mention. They (your current company)clearly don?t offer a competitive fee, so they shouldn?t get anything.
Here in Michigan we have non-competes that restrict you from jumping to the other company to work for, but your state may be different.
