my evenrude runs well with the engine cover off. When i put the cover back on, it slowly loses power and eventually dies. It's not pinching a fuel line or shorting out plug wires.

Hello.<br />This may sound stupid ,but it may work.<br />Put a news paper over the engine and make sure the hood only touches paper when you put it on.<br />If you engine keeps running then your problem is electrical(the hood makes something ground out)<br />If it still dies,it has to either stop fuel supply or ...air supply to the carburator.<br />Good luck.

Hi, Irv.<br />I think Rolmops has it nailed, but there is one other possible suspect. Leaking exhaust fumes strangling the air intake.<br /><br />Good luck.
