Thanks for the help. Now after I check the impeller, T-stat change plugs and clean the carb I'll see how it does. It should make either my 12' allminum or 10' glass boats fly. I'll also check the lower unit and I got a lanyard type kill switch. Mike
I would be sure to check the HP rating of both boats before putting an 18 on either, Mike. Overpowering a small boat is even more dangerous than overpowering a bigger one.
At age 12 I was running around on the Columbia River alone in my first boat, and have had several over the tears. Yes both boats are overpowered with this motor hence the lanyard kill switch, been there done that. This was to good of a deal to pass up. Next spring it will be a trolling motor for a 21' to 28' boat. For now I'll be putting around fishing or retrieving RC boats but you do have to go faster once in a while.
Well, it is just my opinion, but that is premeditated negligence looking for a place to happen. My guess is that neither boat is rated for more than 10HP and you are looking at close to 100% overpower.
Not smart, Mike. Not wise either. I just hope you don't kill someone when it bites you.
Not trying to be smart, but your gonna need that lanyard switch. I have a 14 foot alumacraft that is rated for 20 hp, and my 18 is a tad fiesty on it. I am no expert though.
