My 115 HP Evenrude (Purchased in 1969)is Model 115983, Serial #E05870. The charging system charges to the top of the dash board meter. This motor has a history of burning out "Pulse Pack". I can not identify the voltage regulator ?. My Clymer Manual does not show this configuration. I need help from someone or a lead on a different manual.

Use a digital voltmeter to establish the charging voltage exactly (i.e. engine running, measure battery or alternator/stator output, when it stops increasing. If it goes well over 14.2 volts, there's a problem).

Lyle.... That 1969 115hp Evinrude (and other models that use the same type ignition) demand a high quality battery of at least a 70 amp hour rating. Using anything less runs the possibility of damaging the "Battery Capacitance Discharge" powerpack.

Also, even with that type battery, if there are loose and/or corroded (faulty by any means) connections, the same risk of powerpack damage exists.

There is no voltage regulator within that charging system. If the voltage should start to rise over 14.2 or 14.5 volts, I would suggest that you have something you can turn on to cause the voltage to drop.
