Ethanol help please!

Has never used gas with ethanol. Now I have about 1/3 tank (35 gals +/-) left and every marina in the area where I wet slip the boat has switched to E10 gas. I have no choice but to make the switch even though I have heard some bad stories about people having engine problems due to the ethanol. I was wondering what advice other boaters may have. The boat is a Wellcraft WA - the fuel tank appears to be plastic, not fiberglass. How do Volvo Pentas do generally with ethanol? What additives do you recommend to minimize the effects of ethanol? Should I use a standard Volvo fuel filter or something else? I have been told that I should run all the regular gas out of the tank before starting with ethanol. Is this necessary? I look forward to any and all advice. The big stripers are just starting to arrive and I don't want engine problems out in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Thanks!

you shouldn't have any problems with a 2000 motor and ethanol. Just go ahead and fill your tank and use the boat.

Lola, if your Volvo does not have a factory separating fuel filter (it should), make sure you install one or replace your filter yearly. The biggest problem with ethanol is it's natural desire to absorb moisture. I also like to run the marine version of Sta-Bil that seems to help the moisture issue while keeping the fuel fresh.

+1 on the Stabil marine formula...!

Real easy on the wallet...only 1 oz per 10 gallons of gas.

How many tanks to you go through in a month? If the fuel is only going to be in the tanks for 1-2 weeks i wouldn't bother, you will burn it before it has a chance to absorb too much moisture.

Agree with Jason, just fill it and run it.
