well acording to;
mercurymarine: 150 verado weighs 527 pounds.
105 CI displacement
bore x stroke 3.23 x 3.23
70 amp alt
2.08 gear ratio

evinrude: 150 etec weighs 419 pounds.
158 CI displacement
3.6 x 2.58
133 amp alt
1.86 gear ratio

the things im most concerned with is the extra weight the verado carries, the smaller cubic inches and the stupid supercharger. as long as they both have a warranty, youd win either way.

seriously though, 108 pounds is 1 extra small buddy in the boat, 2 extra batteries, lots of extra beer,13.5 extra gallons of gas, a 9.9 kicker, a swedish supermodel, etc etc etc

Quitico, Check out the discussion under the Yamaha/ Evinrude thread.
Phatmanmike appears to not like 4 strokes of any sort. He is entitled to his opinion and is happy with his choice.
I personally find 4 strokes to be reliable and smooth, I have tested the Verado and find it to be an excellent choice.
Without wanting to cloud the issue I think that direct injected two strokes are also excelent motors, the Mercury Optimax is getting excelent fuel consumption figures and still keeps the weight down.
Phatmanmike, please post pictures of the swedish super model.

I am that guy who pushes the weather when its time to head in. The extra 100lbs will slow the boat whcih I really dont want. So I should really be comparing the Optimax to the Etech.
Thanks Guys

There ya go...and the opti still isn't apples to apples due to the injection system.
All of the 18ft Lunds with a standard splash-well have 2 gussets but that boat is NOT intended for 500+lbs on the rear. I think you will begin to see recommendations from the boat builders as to total, or "Max" engine weight in itself. There are several boat manufacturers re-designing their transoms to handle the Verado, but not all of them...

WOW! over 500lbs for a 150hp....
Get a used Merc 150 I6! I think they weigh under 300 lbs. You can put a new powerhead on it every year and still end up on top!

E-Tec will be coming out with another 150-200 V-6 very soon and it weighs less yet, it is a smaller bolck and would work great for the boat you are talking about. I think the E-Tec is the answer, Opti-pops might get slightly better gas consumption, but still require a lare capicity battery. Look at the performance numbers at this link and I think you can see where they are with thiers numbers and different boats.
http://www.e-tecinfonet.org/id3.html
