My engine numbers are: 217.59310 and I was wondering what year it is and what the oil/fuel mix is too.
We took it out to the lake for a test with the mix I use for my weedwhacker and it ran rough. It leaks fuel out of the carb drain plunger too. So I ordered a new plunger seal/washer from Sears, along with two prop shear pin kits too. When I got the motor it hadn't been run in 2 years so I replaced all the hoses, the fuel filter and installed a new spark plug. I also rinsed out the gas tank and petcock with carb cleaner. I took apart the carb and cleaned it with spray carb cleaner too. I was very happy it started and ran...OK.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Mike

j-13-y has been superseded by champion rj-14-yc you can also run a rj-12-yc which I prefer,if you can find them (colder plug), both gapped at .30

check out www.sparkplugs.com to be sure of the cross reference

this model calls for a J-8-J superseded by RJ-8-C

Re: Eska/Sears 5 horse

The plug that was in the engine was a J-6J. When I went to a local Kragen parts store, I was told the replacement was a J6C.
Another question, as the motor was not started in over a year, is do I have to do anything with a bulb like item at the back of the motor. I s it possibly a fuel filter. It has a turn knob on the bottom. Am I supposed to turn the know until fuel leaks out, ???????
Thanks.
