Escort Trailer for Bayliner questions

I just bought a '99 Capri B/R sitting on an Escort bunk Trailer Model WT17GC, I have a couple questions:

1) Where can I get schematic info i.e. Axle Lenght, Axle diameter, GVWR? Is there still an Escort Company?

2) Can you get a stronger axle in the same diameter, or is the diameter directly proportionate to the GVWR?

3) I was driving it home when I bought it and it walks pretty bad at exactly 61mph and greater. since I live in a 65 mph state, you can see my dilemma, my 1989 Escort had no problem at 70mph. Is that a symptom of a specific problem(axle bad, wheel balance, etc)?

Re: Escort Trailer for Bayliner questions

Here's your trailer - no idea if escort is still in business, but it doesn't really matter since there is nothing particularly unique about them

I'd put the trailer on jackstands and check to see if your rims wobble and if the axle seems bent. I'd also check the angle top to bottom on each hub face.

Re: Escort Trailer for Bayliner questions

single axle trailers tend to be what i call, pain in my a**. first they very rarely like to back up straight and second if you blow a tire or it falls off going down the road your f***d! where as my tandom is a dream backing up and if i blow/lose a tire i can limp it a few miles if need be. tri-axle trailers i dont even need to try they pratically back up themselves.

as to your sway it can be a number of things like your trailer is not close to level the front end is to high. my person experience with every single axle trailer i have towed; 2 boats, 2 utilities, motorcycle trailer, few others fact is they very rarely follow straight at 45+mph if your tire/rim wobbles at that speed then i would look at bearings, seals, rims, axle. if not and its just the whole trailer i wouldn't worry about a 4-6 inch sway as long as its slower and not throwing the vehical, and it does it consitantly it sounds normal. if it does throw your vehical around there maybe something wrong.
