It looks like the one I changed last year that worked fine at high speed but would overheat the engine at idle.
I say it's done.

As long as it's apart, why not? It is a cheap part that can, if it fails, destroy the entire engine. I doubt too many would disagree. I don't know what size or type of motor it's from, but mine was only $24.99 for the impeller itself. Can't go wrong & at least you'll have piece of mind knowing you have a new one in there.

If its permanantly curved like that then the rubber is hard. Its time to replace.

If one fin snaps off and gets stuck in the cooling passage you'll wish you'd have replaced it.

its came of from a 1993 Mariner 115 HP. I own it over 2 years ago, also the t-stat has been changed, now the OB start to "pee" in 18 seconds, before have to wait over 5 mnts or pull the choke. Never has a trouble with temp. Thanks god!

Hard to say without seeing how it fits in the waterpump housing and how well the vanes flex, so I said "Maybe".;)

The old impeller is in your hand. You said you changed it out. Why are you asking THIS question? The question should be...What do I have to do with this impeller to make it an effective doorstop?

Good answer ;-). I've always gone with the school of thought that says if you go to the trouble of taking it out - replace it.

An impeller is 'gone' the moment its wings do not flex back to 'straight' when removed from the housing.

When my engine started to run warm, I replaced what APPEARED to be a perfectly good impeller with a new one. Overheat problem gone.

If in doubt -change it out. Especially on those inexpensive [relatively] maintenance parts. :p

I don't inspect my impeller, it just gets replaced whenever I pull the outdrive and crack it open. False economy in my mind, to open the water pump check it, and put it all back together again. Glad they're inexpensive.
