Hey people First off let me appologize for the vague Info
A buddy of mine Just bought a 32ft sun???? with twin Volvo engines. He is out of town for a while and asked me to take it out for him. I noticed the left engine didnt have enough power to start until the right one was started, then it would start up just fine. We disconnected shore power and 1 min later the left engine died 30 or 40 seconds after that the right one died and we had 6 volts on the voltmeter. I did notice one alt. belt was a little loose and slipping also theres 6 batteries in this thing. Where do i start looking
and also shouldent there be a battery select switch? bat1 bat2 ETC ..or all batteries?
All the cabin accessories were off and the whole cabin fuse panel was turned off Thanks in advance for your help
again sorry for the vague info...its not my boat

Re: Engines just die

Did you try to plug it back into the shore power and see if it would start again? The motors should both have an alternator, so after they start they should run off the alternator and not the battery. 6 volts on the gauge is very lower do you see any increase in power with the motors running. From the sequence of actions you listed it sounds like the engines may have run out or are starving for gas. Is there a fuel pump switch that needs to be turned on or a valve that need to open??

Re: Engines just die

They'll start up fine when attached to shore power well the right one anyway ..the left one will start up after the right has been running for a while...we took it out last weekend and filled it up with gas after we were done
After I hooked it up to shore power the bat's were still at 6 volts but were climbing Its been raining all day here so i havent had a chance to look at it... But it dosent matter the owner dosent want me touching it But thanks for the reply

Might be an array of 6 volt batteries wired to make 12 volts. 6 volts from a 12 volt battery means you have a dead 12 volt battery.

What did the owner say about it, any ideas?
