Just started up my motor for the first time this year. Started great but won't shut off. I Just rewired everything. When I turned off the key, the engine dropped in RPMs but didn't turn off, I used my newly installed kill switch and it was able to kill the motor....any suggestions?

Re: Engine won't shut off

Refresh my memory: Motorola Magna Power or Prestolite ignition?

If Prestolite, did you remember to attach both white wires from the cd boxes to the white terminal? Is one of the white wires broken? However, If the kill switch does stop it, then an intermittent breaK in the two "M" terminal continuity would let the engine continue to run at a reduced speed. Remove the white and blue wires from the switch and after starting the engine, connect them by hand. If the engine stops, the ignition switch is bad.

If Motorola, the blue wire supplies power to the CD box. So again, with the switch off, if there is an intermittent short between "B" and "I" terminals, the engine will continue to run. Here, disconnect the blue and hold it on the red terminal while the engine is started (it may spark a bit). If the engine stops when you remove it, the switch is bad.

ah I meant to put that part in. mangnapower..1979 140 chrysler.
My switch may have gone bad..I know the push to choke function doesn't work anymore, it has original chrysler keys still.
Is there an ignition switch I can use besides the $40 merc part# F5H078?

Standard 6 terminal push to choke, probably available at iboats. You can even use a 4 terminal since all you reall need is the battery, ignition, choke and start terminals.
