I have a 260Hp Merc 5.0 MPI on a 2004 Regal 2200 with 216 hours on it. I bought it used last year so I don't have a lot of history (20 hours). When I reach just over 2000 rpm's I hear a high-pitched whine coming from the engine, I'm not an expert, but I think it's coming from the throttle body.
Once I get past 2500 RPM's, the whine stops. It's only within that small range, a speed at which I never drive (it's not fast enough to plane) and I hear it every time I pass through that RPM range, hot or cool weather.
My hope is that it's only the air whistling through the throttle body at that particular speed. Any mechanic wants to charge me just to look at it (and it would involve a test drive) so I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.
Anyone else have this issue or heard about it? Is it worth having it looked at?
Thanks,
Matt
