hello to you all. can anybody please advise on a question of weight. i have a mayland 14" boat and run an 15hp evinrude as main engine and used to use a 4hp evi two stroke as back up. i have recently bought a honda 5hp four stroke as back up. back up engine sits on an aux bracket bolted through transom. can anybody please advise whether the honda(27kg), and the 15 evi' will be too much for the transom.many thanks for any help.cc

I don't know if anyone other than the manufacturer can give you exact information on this.

Re: engine weight on mayland

my old boat is i suspect a mayland (made in Northern Ireland i believe) it is 16ft and very heavy. i bought it as a scrapper as it had been heavily vandalised it has a deep Vee planning hull but judging by the lack of mounting holes never had a big engine i used her with a 15hp to potter about but i'm sure with a decent engine it would have gone like stink but the transom was a sturdy bit of kit.
