Hello Again,
I continue to count on the accurate and informative advice I receive from this Forum. Thanks, to all who have responded in the past and too those who will in the future.
I am doing some upgrading and repairs to my boat. I removed the waterpump and found the impeller was still in good shape, however the exterior of the pump is quite rusted and I am looking to replace the pump.
My question is, Is there a difference between a standard automotive pump and a marine pump. It appears to be a closed impeller type. Additionally, is this a reverse flow type pump?

As Always Thanks, Mike

The auto circulating pump has thin impeller vanes which rust away . Why replace it if it's working?

The differences between automotive pumps and marine pumps is that the marine pump has a cast brass impeller, a stainless steel backing plate and a stainless steel shaft seal. Can you use an automotive pump? Of course you can, but it will not last very long.

With the inside of the pump in good shape, just de-rust the outside, hit it with some 'Irontite' and paint it... good to go... :D

As far as the pump being "bi-directional"? Yeah, it probably is! Is your engine counter rotating?
