Re: Engine wash
I live about 90 miles from the coast so it's a good 1.5 - 2 hour drive home. Once there, the whole boat gets a bath including the outside of the engine. Then the cowling comes off and the powerhead gets the hose. One has to exercise good judgement and not directly blast electrical connectors, directly into air intakes or otherwise dumb places, but a nice fine water spray all over seems to do the trick and has never once caused me a problem. After the spray job is done, the muffs go on and I run it for several minutes to flush the engine out and warm it up enough to evaporate nearly all of the water. After shutdown I might follow with a little corrosion preventative or lube at certain points. All just part of my anal-retentive liefstyle.
