Engine trouble

I have a Honda 7.5 hp 4-stroke(BF75). It ran very smoothly for a while then it started running ruff and I had it tuned up incl. a carb. overhaul. It is running better, however there is still an odd problem. After the repairs the engine ran fine out of water. But once it was in the water the engine would stall out when I put it in gear (for. & reverse). I found that if I raised the motor till the prop and water intake (right in front of the prop)were just barely in the water rather than 1 1/2 feet in the water (normal position), that the motor ran much better. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? By the way, water is running through the motor.

Re: Engine trouble

I doubt each cylinder is pulling its full weight.

Are you sure it is running on both cylinders.

Re: Engine trouble

It runs better because there is less backpressure on the exhaust. Something is still wrong with your engine.
Buy manual.
Check compression.
Check spark.
Check carb.
Check fuel pump.

If the mechanic set the idle without putting it in a test tank under load, it may be that the idle mixture isn't set right. The idle mixture and speed should be set in the water in gear.
