Engine to Outdrive Ratio

I have a Merc 5.0 and may have a cracked block. I have not checked the outdrive gear ratio on my Alpha I Gen II. I currently have a Land and Sea vari torque prop that changes pitch with the RPM,s. How do I determine if a 5.7 would be compatible?

Ayuh,... Both the 5.0l, 'n the 5.7l use the same 1.50:1 drive ratio...
