engine temp question

350 V8 - 2004 - Normally, it runs right at 175-180 degrees.. but I noticed it was drifting higherup to almost 200. Its hard to tell where it is on the gauge but it was almost to 200.... so I changed the impeller. It seemed to help but it still is running at least 185 or 190. I can see it drop a little when I am in Idle. Is this something where changing the thermostat would help or is it something else? I assume its 160 degree thermostat.
thanks

Re: engine temp question

Check and back flush the oil cooler. Stuff usually clogs there and restricts the flow up to the engine.

Also check the elbows and manifolds. At 8 years old they are probably in need of looking at... Are you in salt or fresh water? do you have dry-joint elbows or the old wet-joint?

Re: engine temp question

The boat is in fresh water. not sure what you mean by dry vs wet joint elbows but I will look online to see and check the boat. Is it also worth changing the thermostat?

UPDATE: I changed the Thermostat and it resolved the problem. Thanks
