Will a 1971 ford302 hang on the transom plate of a 1971 merc165 chevy inline6 set up(with new front engine mounts?). Also, will the Y-pipes connect? I know...I'm crazy!

Re: engine swap?

Do you mean will the mounts work for both along with the drive?

Re: engine swap?

If I were to swap out the 165 setup for a 225 setup (engine, outdrive, transom plates, would I need to modify the hole in the transom for the larger engine?

No,.........

And,....
Not to Argue,... But to explore,.........
I'm not sure of Don's answer,.........

On the 1st point,... I believe Both of those inner transom plates use the 15" centers rear motor mounts,.........
Although there maybe some Other differences,.. The motor mounts Will align,.........

I'm Pretty Sure he's got the 2nd answer right,.....I haven't really Looked at the exhaust port size,+ shape..........

I Agree on His 3rd answer,....... :D

What did you do,..??? Find a New Hull for Your driveline ???

Nope, the cutout should be the same.
That would be the best way to go about your repowwer.

Re: engine swap?

Thank you all for the input. Yes, Bondo, I was considering a 21' Slickcraft 165 that needs a new engine. The boat has more of a ocean type hull than my tri-hull(s). It would probably be easier just to drop in a new crate engine (inline 6). On the other hand, I really don't need another project boat.
Some people say that working on boats has made me have AADD, but I think I'm.....oh look! There's a Boston Whaler!
