Ayuh,.... I've worked on alota Alpha 1 Gen.IIs, 'n every one of 'em had a throttle cable to the carb, 'n a shift cable from the controller to a swirch plate, then the lower shift cable from the switch plate to the drive,....
Granted, I've never seen the diesel motor yer pullin',...
Post pictures of what yer seein',....
I am confused, as I thought you were usin' an '83 3.0l,....
Actually this is what you said.
Now I never assumed by you saying EVERY Alpha you had ever worked on was setup that way and so EVERY Alpha drive must be setup that way.But not everybody deals with information the same..I think there was maybe some confusion when I said the early model transom mounted shift plate which I would have had to use with that swap wasn't gonna work for me.
So I simplified the information and just said NOT EVERY ALPHA DRIVE is set up that way.No big deal.
When someone who isn't talking about this stuff everyday of their lives and do not have a lot of experience and knowledge dealing with this stuff finds themselves digging through 100s of threads in some cases going back 10 years it can be very misleading depending on who is saying what and what applications are being discussed.
The more concise, simple and accurate the information is the better for all of us who use this information as a resource.
So my statement is meant to clear up and simplify for others down the road who may run into the same problems I did and save them from making the same mistake I did.
Im not arguing with you or having a debate or trying to tarnish your reputation as the Mercruiser know all in any way, shape or form.
This is my experience and what I have found out dealing with my specific situation.
Theres an old saying 'All you know is what you've seen" some will even take that a step further and add what they've heard. Then you really get a mess.
The "you" is meant as a third person reference. You,me,us,we etc.
New thread time.
Im on the right track.part of getting on the right track was getting off the wrong one.
Theres a lesson for me there.Maybe others too
