Engine Swap Over - First Oil Selection

Hello,

The motor is coming along nicely. I will be likely putting oil in the block tonight or tomorrow night to do the initial priming. I'd prefer to run volvo penta full synth but I also want to consider the initial 3-5 hours of running a rinse if you will (might even throw some seafoam in there for the last hour or two if you recommend). I'll do an oil change to the better stuff in a week or two after i make sure she's running well. Could i get away with a 10w-40 synth blend valvoline for example? This motor is out of a 97 silverado (seems to be in great shape actually) with 107k miles.

Ayuh,..... I run 15W-40 Rotella diesel oil in all my motors, from lawn mowers to boats, pickups, 'n big rigs,.....

Volvo wants mineral oil for the complete break-in. No synth for 20 hrs

Rotella T4 is dinosaur juice

T5 is dino-syn mix

T6 is synthetic (usually distilled from natural gas )

Go with Rotella conventional (T4). When I got my repower from michigan motorz they required use of rotella for break in. No synthetic for 100 hrs.

I used conventional quicksilver 25-40 then at 100 hrs switched to mobil one
