Engine swap mercruiser 470 (165) to a 165 inline 6

I just bought an IMP 22 fisherman boat with bad motor 470 4 cyl. Trying to get more info. Should I have motor rebuilt or swapped or is it possible to upgrade to the 165 inline 6.

Is the current 470 an MC1 or later? If MC1, then the 165 is the only option if you're staying with the current drive and transom assembly. If it's R or later, then the 165 is only an option if you put a later 3 litre flywheel housing on, but the 4.3 becomes an option. Best of all, just replace the whole shooting match with a late model 4.3 complete package.

I love my I-6 165 mercs but if I could I believe I would go with the 4.3. Just my 2 cents.
