I have been doing some work on a guys boat (I am new to wrenching on boats but not to mechanics), he overheated his Johnson 110 a few weeks ago and has since bought another boat and wants to swap engines. The Johnson 110 is an 88 model and the other boat he bought has a '72 Evinrude 125 on it. I am just looking for any advice or information about this swap, is it possible? is it a good idea? what to watch out for if doing the swap? etc. Thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can give me.
Thanks,

Rick

If you do swap them, take the controls, wireing harness and ect with each mtr. IMHO, I'd stick with the 110 hp.

Re: Engine swap info/advice

That's kind of what I was trying to talk him into but he went out and bought another boat last week and now wants to know if the motors can be swapped. He overheated the 110 and it didn't lock it up but the compression is really low. The compression is 73, 35, 25 and 25 so I was thinking rebuild but again, I am new to boat wrenching and don't know the best route for him to take. The older motor doesn't have the electric trim either, it also has the push button transmission shifter. Do you know if the transoms will interchange?
Thanks,
Rick
