engine stops

[hotrod 2010]

i have a 55 hp johnson, got it on the lake today, motor starts but wont run very long. it will run for a few minutes then it dies. have new gas in there, any suggestions, i need help. it will run with muffs on.

im at home now, got the water hose hooked up and muffs on its running good, i dont understand why it wouldnt run in the lake today.

Check your compretion on all cylinders, there's not as much preasure on the motor while on the muffs compared to in the lake

Start it up on the muffs, pull one plug wire at a time and see if you have equal drop on all cyl's.

thank you for your help. im new to outboards. i can work on car motor just fine. i changed the spark plugs in it yesterday, sounds a little better. took it to lake today, it ran father than yesterday, but it still shuts itself off, when it does this you have to wait a little bit before it will start again, i will check to see if there's a drop in cyclinereds. thank you again for your help

Check the fuel tank vent. Under load it will require more fuel than on the hose. It doesn't take long if the tank is full.
