I hope someone out here can help me!

Here's what I have:
1996 Bayliner 2655 Ciera Sunbridge
Mercruiser 350 w/Alpha One drive
(Very low hours)

Problem:
I start the engine and it runs for 30-60 seconds and then just cuts off. It will not restart until I pump the throttle several times, then it starts and runs smooth for another 30-60 seconds. I have changed the water separator and check the carb fuel screen. Maybe the fuel pump?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hate to call a mechanic for something that might be minor.

PS I have fuel in the tank!

Thanks, Mark Alderson

Re: Engine Stopping Woes!

I would try connecting it to a remote tank with a bulb. If it starts to quit, pump the bulb. If that helps then start looking at the fuel pump and work your way to the carb..

If it runs fine then you need to look at your tank and connections. The anti siphon valve, fuel pickup, leaky hose connnection, or crap in the tank would all be potentials..

How old is your gas? If it smells like rotten eggs, get rid of it and start with fresh fuel.

Mark
Welcome to the board. My first question is your 350 the 300 HP MPI or the 250 HP 2 barrel Carb. My guess is you have the Carburetor and have a stuck float. Try taping on top of the Carburetor with the handel of a screw driver.

or, if it is wired like mine, with electric fuel pump wired thru oil pressure switch in the run position and direct in start position,it might be pump not running after engine starts and key returned to run. or not.
