I have a mercury 9.9 HP outboard motor (2006 vintage )and I have a lot of onging issues trying to get it started this year. Took me almost 4 hours to get it going. Ran it for about 20 minutes at idle and then started it every second day thereafter for about two weeks. Started within 2 pulls. Got it on the water, and it started as expected - 2 pulls. Went out for about a 20 minute run on the engine, stopped it, and it refused to start again. Smells like the engine got flooded. Had to use a trolling motor to get back.
Left it for about a week, and tried to start - 2 pulls and it started. Left it for another week, but now it simply will not start. Am thinking maybe my fuel from the tank to the motor needs replacing. I noticed that none of the replacement lines available now even have a fuel demand valve on them, only the connectors and a bulb. Can a fuel demand valve cause these issues? If I open the vent on the tank, is there even a need for a fuel demand valve in the fuel hose? How do I know if the fuel demand valve is even working?
Thanks.
Doug
