Hi there,
New at this as i just bought my very first boat.
It's a Boston Whaler 15' and it came with a 1997 70HP Johnson on it.
It starts fine and idles great (smokes a bit on first start)...
When i shift it into gear, it will die out in a couple of seconds if i don't "give it gas".
When it goes into gear and i just leave the throttle at this position, the engine will die out in a few seconds, but if i advance the throttle it will keep on going and move the boat.
I also noticed that once i shift it into gear, the engine will not respond unless i advance the throttle about half way (to max throttle), and even there, it's "slow" speed, almost like the throttle has the first half "dead" and needs to be advanced to half point to have some sort of engine response.
Granted, i haven't done any maintenance on the engine yet and i plan on replacing the spark plugs and clean the carbs etc.. but i wanted to know if the existing problem i'm experiencing has to do with the linkage (link & sync) or more fuel system related (spark plugs, carbs etc...).
From everything i read on this great forum, the closest match i could find was related to the linkage.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
