Does anyone have any comments on dealing with rapid-o marine and the quality of their engines? I've been emailing Raul and he has put together a package including; 1 350 1pc block engine $1300.00, 2 350 heads $ 150.00,
1 300-320 hp cam $185.00???, and shipping $150.00 = $1,785.00. Is this the best I can do online for an engine? Can I build anything else in this price range that would produce 300 hp on an Alpha 1?

Does anyone have any pro/cons on going with a roller cam and rockers or vortec intake and heads? What if I went with his long block what woud be a good 4 barrel intake and carb. combo?

I know little about engines but just know I'd like to build something a little larger than stock but still being able to utilize my stock outdrive, HELP!

I would go with the vortec heads/intake and then select not as radical cam and still be around 300 hp.

hi i brought an engine from rapido. the boat spent 6 months in the shop. not engine troubles. the motor idles fine but my boat is not water ready yet as i had dealer problems. but during the time at the dealer. i did searches and found you can get new engines on line 5.7 with valve covers and oil-timing covers installed for a few hundred more . i pd. about 1500 with shipping , plus i got the barr manifolds from him..they were overpriced their a little. i would shop around. also these were stock 5.7

I've had no problems with the block I bought from him.

I've heard the stories about the crate motor deals, but none around here to be found when I was looking.

Just keep in mind that crate engines are rated at crank and mercs at prop. You would have at least 15-20hp lost in the drive. Also most crates are rated with headers or dual exhaust amd not the equivelent restrictive Y pipe. Since we talking under 5K rpms on stock type motors, probably only around another 10hp loss.
