I have a 1979 Chrysler 115 outboard the engine will only start if throttle is at least 3/4 and it runs really rough, but if I disconnect the fuel line from the carb the engine will start right up and run great. I've changed the fuel line,
cleaned the filter, I guess the fuel pump is working it is throwing out fuel in spurts I've changed the spark plugs I don't know what else to do any help would be appreciated.

How does it run when you choke it when it is running like crap? You may be running too rich. Where are your idle adjustment screws set to?

How about a new fuel tank and quick disconnect?

It ran perfect last week with the same fuel that's in it now, I'm running it a little rich because I just bought the boat and it has been sitting for the last 10 years and only has about 20 hours on the engine. I haven't tried choking it with it running like crap, I'll give it a try.

dude try replacing the fuel pump diaphram. with the fuel line disconnected your running the engine off of the fuel in the carb fuel bowls. by hooking up the fuel line any diaphram or carb needle valve leakage will cause the motor to flood.
the recirc passages on that motor and the water pump relief will need maint as well.
good luck and keep posting

If RODBOLT's advice does not help, check the air intake of your fuel tank. It may be plugged. Or check for kinks in the fuel hose.

Stuck carb float, Dobson.

With the line connected it is flooding its cylinder(s), like Rodbolt suggests.

Disconnect the line and no more flooding.

Overhaul your carb(s) with special attention to floats and inlet needles and seats.

Good luck and let us know what you find. :)
