I recently purchased a 2003 chaperral 230ssi with 480 hours, water testing temp gauge went close to 200, the water distribution blue tab was leaking pretty badly, got home changed it and ran on hose where temp leveled off at 180, but that was in driveway with muffs, will it run hotter on water? 350 mag with bravo3

Some will argue.-----Most experienced boat people will say.-----" just bought a boat , install a new water pump impeller before your first launch "

As Bondo said, a lot of those V8 MerCruisers had raw water pumps, with thru hull pickups, to cool the engine itself. They therefore did not rely on the OD pump to do that.

Ayuh,..... They said it's a B-III, so it's a motor mounted raw water pump,....

Someone told me with the Bravo 3 a garden hose doesn't give you enough water to cool the engine that's maybe why it was running at 180 in the

Ayuh,..... Depends on the pressure, 'n flow of yer garden hose,......
Bein's ya just bought it, I'd go through the raw water pump, as preventive, 'n to know what yer startin' with,.....

Personally, I'd service it from pulleys to prop,... Just to know exactly what I'd bought,.....

Since this is a 20 year old. Oat with questionable maintenance history, replace your impeller, service your drive, align the motor and all other maintenance that was neglected by the prior owner

If the impeller has any parts missing, then you need to find them

And since lack of water flow leads to burning the flappers and the rubber exhaust bits. You most likely need to replace those too

No . . . the Bravo will suck water out of the hose if it needs to. You can certainly run at idle speeds on the hose/muffs and even up to about 1200 RPM with no worries. I've been running them on the hose for about 18 years and 3 different boats with Bravo's

Be careful what you are told.
