I have a 1989 merc 4.3 v6 which had water in the oil. Long story short, I am trying to remove the engine. I already have the heads, manifold, alt, steering pump all removed. My question for the forum is, How heavy is just the block with the cam and crank shafts and pistons? Will I be able to muscle it out with three guys or can I use a latter on each side on the boat with a cross-member attached. Then I could use a chain hoist to pull it up. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Engine Removal

yes,a ladder will work.make sure it is a sturdy crossmember though.that block weighs in with heads on pistons ,and crank in shipping crate weight on mine was 450.just had a piece of plywood wrapped around it strapped to a pallet,so maybe 30 pounds there so say 420.wrecker,or block and tackle are much better than busting a nut,or dropping that thing.
