engine problems?

i have a 1969 regal with a volvo penta motor. its an inline six. the motor is siezed and i want to see about removing it and sticking something else in its place. but.......i don't know boats. not sure what i can or can't use in it. not really sure what the back half is. i think its a mercruiser 165. if anyone has any information it is greatly appreacitaed. thanks.

Generally speakin', most boats are Supposed to be Volvo, or Mercruiser from the pulleys to the prop...

Sounds like ya got a cobbed up Frankenboat...

Volvo also used a straight 6 back then. It had three carbs. AQ165 was the model number, which than became the AQ170.

I wouldn't replace your current engine with one of these however as parts are becoming rare and expensive. If the boat is in good shape, You may want to concider buying a rotted out boat with a newer drivetrain to swap over complete. If you don't want to rebuild your transom, you'll need to find a boat with the older style volve outdrive, 270,280,290. MId 80s bayliners come to mind...
