Ive got a 1994 johnson 150 fast strike that is giving me all kinds of problems all the sudden....

I was running it saturday, had a small miss early in the day but started to run fine and seemed to do well.... then i had the beeping alarm go off.... according to the warning label it was either over heating or no oil....

However it seems to be using oil just fine... i fill it regularly so i dont think that is the problem but who knows...

the only thing i didnt replace this year was the water pump it seemed to be doing fine so that was next on my list....

However the problem when the alarms went off i turned the engine off and it never cranked again... wont even try to turn over.....

I trolled all the way to the dock... got it home let it set... last night i tried to start it again and it did maybe a half crank but once again nothing...

The batteries are hot so its not the battery... could it be the starter?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: engine problems

try to turn in over by had (with a wrench) and see if you can, if you cant then its was the low or no oil alarm.

An overheat alarm is a steady horn while oil related alarms are a series of beeps. Which alarm did you get?

It was the Series of Beeps... but it just doesnt seem like No Oil... it was running fine when it started beeping... wouldnt it start acting up or something when it was not getting any oil?

If it was the low oil what would explain it tryingto crank over yesterday and now nothing just like when it was on the lake?

And how exactly do you turn it over by hand?

put a wrench on the fly wheel and turn it clockwise i believe lol and you should feel the compression if you can turn it

Re: engine problems

can't get at the flywheel nut, its an optical ignition.
Remove sparkplugs, place in gear and turn the prop.

Check the oil tank for water.
Remove oil line at engine , see if theres oil in the line right up to the connector.

Re: engine problems

Well i took all plugs out and turned over manually by putting it in gear and turning the prop... it def turns over as you can hear the compression coming out where the plugs go....

Now i am guessing this means that the engine is not seized up due to non oil?

However still stuck on why it wont start any ideas?

I took off the hose in the engine that supplys the oil... pumped the bulb oil squirting out... unless something is clogged up it seems fine...

Re: engine problems

Check your voltage at the solenoid, then check it at the starter, now check both places while someone cranks/turns the key. That will tell you if you have a low battery, bad solenoid, or bad starter. You will still need to determin the cause of the alarm.
