I have a 96 seadoo xp. The ski idles fine, but when I give it gas it goes a little bit but then goes back down to idle. It never completly stalls out and sometimes it will even get out of the water up say 30 mph for a little bit but then goes back down to arounf idle speed.

Ive changed the fuel filter that did nothing, but last time i was riding I noticed the battery light came on when I just had it on the charger and it's a fairly new battery "under a year old" I was wondering if I had a blown fuse and the charging system was not working right that would not cause this right it would just drain my battery.

Any ideas would be appreciated, The ski just sounds like it runs great no back firing when idle or even when I am giving it gas and like I said it will just out of no where take off then when I am throttling it so I don't think it is a timeing issue, I feel like it is an electrical issue or secondly a gas issue but I am more leaning toward electrical but what do I know!!!!

Sounds like a lack of fuel, replace fuel lines and rebuild fuel pump and check carbs. It is acting like the diaphrams are old and brittle.

When you changed the fuel filter did you do the ones inside your carburators? they are small and hard to get to. A common cause for the issue you have.

I did not. Just replaced the one under the front hatch by the fuel tank. So I guessing I should take the carbs completly off and do a full cleaning.

I have a 98 GTI and mine had about the same problem you are describing. The small filter inside the carb was plugged with black goo, possibly due to the ethanol in gas now. I bought a rebuild kit which included this filter and the ski ran great. I didn't use it last year and this year when I went to fire it up the same thing happened. The filter was plugged again. I was using Startron stabilizer but have since switched to Sta-Bil for ethanol. I also installed a small Raycor fuel-water separating fuel filter after the OEM screen filter from the fuel valve and haven't had any more problems this year. Hopefully this will prevent the small filter in the carb from gunking up again.
