i took my boat out tonight small 9ft tinny with a 8hp johnson the first few minutes at full throttle the boat went like a dream up on a plane not a problem than all of a sudden we lost speed than the motor reved once i eased the throttle back to 1/4th things returned to normal after this the engine would "rev" again every time i went around 3/4th throttle im thinking it could be one of the following
worn gear?
worn rubber in the prop?
these are the only things i can think of at this moment anyone else had or know what this problem could be?

i had this same problem on one of my previous boats
