Re: engine power loss

I just rebuilt the fuel pump on my 55 yesterday. Took about a half an hour. The parts were about $9 at NAPA. You might also want to think about rebuilding your carb. Not that hard to do. The rebuild kit at NAPA comes with some good illustrated instructions. Make sure you soak the carb body in solvent or gasoline and blow it out with compressed air before reassembling. I'm also replacing the fuel tanks and all fuel and other hoses just to be safe.

Re: engine power loss

Scotianys advise worked for my chrysler. Napa also has the carb rebuid kit for about 12 bucks. If it is not the fuel pump it might be the float needle sticking on your carb. Also when you are at napa bring in a piece of your fuel line and replace all of it from tank to pump to carb. The stuff is about a buck a foot and you will only need about 8 feet. Also while at napa you might want to get new plugs. I am pretty sure your motor takes Champion L82C plugs(These replaced the L4J). They are under two dollars a piece there.

Hey Eurolavra, found the official Champion conversion booklet at a marine store. Indeed , the L4J is the L82C, bought a couple @$2.15 ea. It also said the new L82C is the 811.BTW, Walmart has the fuel bulb(5/16) for $5.99.

Hey Scotinay. Thanks for the info on the primer bulb. It is the only thing I have left to replace on my fuel system. Now that it is running so good I am afraid to replace it considering all the posts I have read concerning bad primer bulbs. I picked up my plugs at napa for $1.85 each.
