Hi all

I have a Maxum 1800 sr with a Mercruiser 130hp and alpha 1 combination. I can start my engine easily (it's a year 2000 model) and I always let it warm up. On the first attempt to take off (ie: apply power) the engine dies and I have to drop it back into nuteral to stop it from cutting out. Jsut applying the power the second time works and I have never seen this problem re-occur during a day out. Always on first power take off.

Any insight or solutions would be great.
Thanks
Donie

these engines allways have a slight hessitation upon takeoff.yours sounds like the carb has a slight clog in it. you can try running the engine in neutral at about 2500rpm and clossing the choke plate it might pull any debris through the jet and save you from pulling apart the carb.good luck

Choke is Sticking Closed. My Maxum does the same thing. I let it warm up, Goose it in Nutural kick it in gear and away I go.(just in the first warm up)Runs fine all day long. Never had an issue sence. Boats are like people, Not a darn one runs the same and they all have little quarks that we must figure out to enjoy them more.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll try that out with the carb and see how it goes. I know it's not too serious but it's just a tad annoying especially since it's done so little work. Maybe this is part of the problem :)

Thanks
Donie

Mine does the same thing. I do the same as the others...just goose it in neutral and away I go. Sometimes I forget and just pull the power out until she recovers, and then I put it back in. No sweat.

Mine does same thing always has. No stuck choke no carb clog, thought it could be in interupt switch somehow. As long as it keeps on doing it I am fine with it.

74 bayliner 2250 302 mercruiser alpha 1
8400+ HRS

My 2002 Maxum with the 3.0 did the same thing. No matter how much it was warmed up the first time you take off it bogged. The dealer said my choke was not working at all and replaced the carb. Also there is a Merc service bulletin that recommends changing the acelerator pump to the center hole. It may be a combination of the two fixes. Boat runs fine now.
