Any reccomendations about using the cans of spray paint and primer sold to repaint the lower power units of engines and areas showing blistering of paint?
They'll work fine, most importantly is the primer coat. The area to be refinished must be clean and free of grease, oil, etc. I prime with Zinc Chromate.
I just got done redoing my Bravo III outdrive I went thru the extra step of completely stripping the paint off the entire lower unit first. All the way to the bare metal the sanded the unit until it was completely clean washed it down with acetone. Then put on 3 coats of Zinc primer and 6 coats of black top coat. It's been back in the water for a couple of months just dove it this weekend and it looks great.
