I was cruising at about 3200 RPMs and the engine overheated, made a grinding noise then seized up. Does anyone have an idea of what may have happened? I'm hoping that I can repair it without having to pull the motor out of the boat, but know how my luck is with easy repairs. Thanks, Jim

I remember reading similar posts and determining whether it is the engine itself or the outdrive is the best place to begin if you're saying it still won't start now.

Remove the drive and see if it kicks over or not.

Remove the spark plugs too in case it is hydrolocked. If any water comes out of the cylinders, you will need to address that situation ASAP.

Did you also take note of what the oil pressure was when the ship hit the fan?

if it is the outdrive, then the engine can probably stay in the boat . . . If it is the engine, it is coming out.

pull drive off and split and check if waterpump is there in one bit, this will prove if it was water related.
is there oil in the engine?
if its still not cranking after a day its an engine replacement out of a truck or buy a new one from michigan motorz and just switch ancillaries.
maintenance is the key and avoiding it proves costly as your about to see.
