I've got a 1987 2.5L Alpha One and oil is leaking at the right front of the engine. It is dripping off of the hose that runs from the housing to the water pump. I really can't tell the origin of the leak, but I'm losing a lot of oil. Any help would be appreciated!!

Re: engine oil leak

Could be a rocker cover gasket, or a leaking timing cover. If you're losing a lot of oil, remove the water hose and have a look around. The source should be obvious.

Chris.........

It's the timing cover. Can it be replaced without removing the engine????

Re: engine oil leak

hello
there is a heated debate on that. yes with the right tools and if your engine has the room its possible. normally not. the oil pan seal is all but impossible to reinstall"correctly with the pan in place. while the circulating pump is off check the vent hole for leakage. its the common cause of timing cover rust outs.

good luck and keep posting

Not to sound like an idiot, but what is the "vent hole" and where is it located?

Re: engine oil leak

there is a small hole on most water pumps that will leak water as the seal starts to fail

the water drip then causes all kinds of damage if it goes unrepiared

tommays
