Does anyone know where I would find the engine number on a 1961 evinrude lark? I need the engine number (not the model number) to register the boat and I don't know where to look for it.

Model number and serial number should be on a plate on the transom clamp bracket. On older models the two numbers are often run together as one. However the plate is often missing.

Sometimes, but not always by any means, the number is stamped on a core plug on the powerhead but often the number stamped there is not the model/serial number either.

If the plate is still on the transom bracket you have it. If it isnt, is illegible or been painted over you probably don't have it.

The numbers are as shown in these two pictures. Evinrude numbers are displayed as xxxxx-xxxxx, the first series is the model and the second series is the serial.

Every motor left the factory with the two locations intact. If both are missing, it is a pretty safe bet that the motor has been stolen at some time in it's life. They don't just fall off by magic. However, repacement powerheads do come either with no plug or just RPH stamped on it.
