engine not stopping

I read the FAQ about an engine not starting.... but saw nothing about an engine not stopping...???

I just bought this 1976 Starcraft with OMC 2.5L Chevy engine.

Was out on the water and wanted to turn the engine off but it did not stop when I turned the key to off. Once I was back at the peer... it stopped when I turned the key to off. Hmmmm??

Anyone have a clue to where I should be looking?? I could always manually stop it by pulling the wire on the distributor cap wire... but I'd rather not!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Bad ign.switch ,alt. backfeeding the system,short in the wiring harness supplying power to the ign. circuit.

my guess is bad ignition switch. they are cheap and pretty easy to change out.

i need to get a new one for mine cuz its pretty hard to turn the key.
