Hopefully someone can help...

I have a 28' Chris Craft with a 1991,305 Merc, straight shaft inboard. Carb is new last year and was professional installed. The engine was running great until the other day when I had the boat out and she wouldn't pass 3500 RPMs at WOT. We didn't have any heavy loads on board...no excess water in the bilge, or anything else out of the norm. Conditions weren't rough. Prior to this the engine was running WOT at 4800 and speeds were where they should be. The boat has been in the water since the beginning of May but as far as I can see, there isn't much of a build up on the bottom. This is the only thing I can think of... The other day I noticed the oil was slightly low so I filled it and checked it, it looked fine.. Now I checked it and it seems too full. Could too much oil be causing this problem?

Helpful insight from anyone would be great.

Thanks all!

James

I would check for a bad plug/plug wire first. How much did your oil level rise? If it rose alot you may be getting a water leak into your oil. I think I would pull the plugs, look at them. Turn the motor over, (ground the coil) and make sure you have no water in your cylinders as well.......JK
