Engine noise: Inline 4 versus V6

Right now I have a 1989 Bayliner with the 2.3 inline 4 engine. Been a very reliable boat in spite of the Bayliner reputation. Looking to move up slightly to a 2004 Tahoe Q4 with the Mercruiser 4.3 V6. My question concerns engine noise. My inline 4 is really noisy at any RPM above 4000 even after adding additional insulation. Just wondering what I can expect with the V6? Both boats have the engine compartment that protrudes into the seating space. Seats on either side of the engine cowl if you know what I mean.

Second question, I see boats where the engine sets back and the rear seat is a bench across the back. Is that setup quieter than the setup I describe above? Is it worth what you sacrifice in passenger space? Thanks!

Over 4,000 RPM the Tahoe will be just as loud. The sunsport seating optio barely reduces the noise level, if at all.
The sacrifice in cockpit space is your decision, knowone can decide that for you.

More than likely true. Although my 4.3L MPI is not to bad. The thing is you'll have about 10+ MPH more top speed so you will not need to turn 4K+ as much.
