Depending on maintenance, in a commercial application it would not be unusual for a diesel like that to run 5000+ hours before overhaul, potentially significantly more. The fact is though that items like heat exchangers, turbochargers, injectors etc. can get very expensive long before then. Especially with poor maintenance or simply non-use.
What application? Pleasure? What year model? How many hours now? Maintenance records? New?
I run my boat about 100 hours a year which is high for most pleasure boaters that average around 50. However, if this boat is for cruising, it could be significantly higher even for a pleasure boater . . . Commercial, 5 days a week, figure around 2000 hours annually, and it goes up from there.
