Engine Identification

Just purchased a project boat. Came with a Merc 250cui IL6 160hp, S/N 2232201. Is there a site where I can find out what year engine this is?<br />It looks pretty good so far. Removed the manifold and head. Doesn't appear to be much corrosion. I'm hoping to freshen it up with new rings, bearings, recond the head, clean out the block etc....Any suggestions/advice? The engine seems very easy to work on, removed the top half in very little time.

Thanks snapper...was hoping it was newer but am going to rebuild so it probably doesn't matter too much. Hope I don't have to bore it out!

Tony, If you need parts for that motor, a Chevy pick-up, or Full sized car motor is the Same Basic Motor.... <br />In other words, A motor from an 80s or so pick-up Will Work...
