I am considering purchasing a used boat. I was wondering what should be considered a lot of hours on an engine.

For instance, I am currently looking at boat built in 1994 with 560 hours on it.

Is that a few? A lot? Or just about right?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Engine Hours

That boat does not have that much time on it. I use a guide of about 200 hours per year on used boats, but I have commonly found boats with less. Check the condition of everything on the boat. Good luck.

Re: Engine Hours

In my experience, most outboards have probably too few hours than too many. They are meant to be run, and problems occur when they aren't used regularly. A service history is more important, on my view, along with some history of how the boat has been used.
