Engine hours indicator counter

for some reason my engine hours counter stopped working. the leads seam ok, but what are the common problems?

It is a 1996 Sea Ray 175BRXL 160 hp 4.3 V6 Mercruiser stearndrive.

One of the leads should have 12 volts and one should be a good ground. If those are good then the meter is bad.

it turns out that the service place reversed the leads when they changed the oil. they must havew unplugged it when they serviced it. thanks for the tips.
